I am currently the director of the Master’s program in Information Science and Information Technology at the University of South Carolina. I also serve as director of the Learning Center for Advanced Teaching and Learning and as Director of the Advanced Teaching & Learning Center for the University of Southern California. My interests include the study of instructional design, the study of teaching methods, and the study of the relationship between teaching and learning. I am also a member of the North Carolina School Board Board of Trustees and the North Carolina State Board here Trustee. Why I am a Certified Teacher I have been a Certified Teacher since 1996 with the University of Southeastern North Carolina. My teaching career has included teaching and learning for the majority of my academic years. Beginning in the fall of 1997, I was hired as a professional educator by the University of New Hampshire, and was named one of the “Teaching Directors of the Year” in 1999. After the 1999 opening of the Institute for Advanced Study, I was named as Assistant Director of the Institute of Learning and the Center for Teaching Innovation. In 2011, I moved to the University of Charleston and was promoted to director of the South Carolina Department of Education. During the summer of 2013, I was promoted to instructor of the South Carolinas School Board of Trusts. As a teacher, I was honored to have received the DTS Teacher’s Certificate from the University of Tennessee-Palo Alto (TU) for outstanding teaching and learning experience in the South Carolina schools. Working with the University has resulted in the construction of the South Charleston campus, and the construction of two new buildings, the Thomas & Payne Center and the North Charleston Center for the Performing Arts.
